Study On Contrast Of Word Order In English And Chinese And College English Writing Teaching

There exist a lot of serious problems in college students' English learning. Chinese and English belongs to different language family relatively.Language learners and researchers have been focusing on getting rid of Chinese language's negative influence on English, and improving English learners' learning efficiency. Lots of severe errors are found in college students' writing. In addition to the misusing of vocabularies and tenses, the errors include using wrong structure and Chinglish, for example, word disorder and inappropriate transition are often found in Chinese students' English writing.English sentence pattern is open edding and based on end weight principle, and a strong trend of weight fronting of Chinese sentence decides its linear word order is from right to left. Such difference can be expressed in the basic structure as well as modifiers. Most modifiers in English are post-positioned, while the latter are almost pre-positioned. In terms of text transition, based no hypotaxis, English text is organized in a linear pattern with substitution, ellipsis, and lexical repetition to connect sentences and texts. On the other hand, based on parataxis, Chinese text is organized with loose link between sentences, fewer conjunctive words as well as cohesive devices. English texts usually tell the topic sentences and then analyse sentence by sentence, while in Chinese text, topics are often indirectly expressed. As English learners, it's unavoidable to be interfered by mother tongue's language structure and the difference between the two languages. Thus there exist so many errors in their writing.The author tries to contrast word order in the two languages, and use the contractive way in college students' English writing teaching practice, seeking for word order contrast 's important role in improving students' writing.
