| This paper studies the marriage law cases in Jiangjin county, Sichuan province, analyses the status of women in the bottom of society, and reveals the modernization process of law in the early Republic of China.The paper consists of four parts. The first chapter discusses the judicial background and the marriage customs of Jiangjin society. The second chapter gives a comprehensive introduction to the marriage lawsuits in Jiangjin County in the early Republic of China. The third chapter discusses the bigamy and remarriage cases, focusing especially on the low position of women. The fourth chapter discusses the cases of seduce-abduction and divorce, indicating how the poor women appealed for their rights with some distorting methods. |
