Study On Shen Congwen's Cultural Identity And Cultural Position

The cultural identity and cultural position of Shen Congwen has been puzzled his own literary creation and critics for a long time. For this problem, the contemporary critics have different viewpoints. Shen Congwen called himself"countryman"and took Xiangxi as his life savers and spiritual home, but he wasn't a pure countryman because we just recognize his spiritual pursuit: modern intellectual's rational cognition, the consciousness of exploring fathers'footprint, the ideal of pursuing the sublimation of life, rebuilding culture, national and literature through the description of remote Xiangxi. From exploring his pursuit of spirit, this paper will put the object under the background of culture and literature field,use the collective unconscious of Carl jung, psychology, Nietzsche's tragic philosophy, the theory of culture history and culture identity, combine with text and comparative analysis to arrange Shen Congwen's writing psychology, and then research the complexity of cultural identity and cultural position, including its corresponding performances in creation.The first part is introduction. It introduces the study of Shen Congwen at home and abroad, and the purpose, significance and main content of this paper.The second part is Shen Congwen's choice about urban and rural culture. This part discusses the construction of self's cultural identity in Xiangxi culture and urban culture, and he transcends opposite dual cultural pattern.The third part is the embodiment of multicultural identity. As the key content of the paper, this part discusses the evolution and performance of Shen Congwen's culture identity which impacts on his literature creation activities.The forth part is the consolidation of different cultural position. This part studies the performance of cultural position in the"May 4th"cultural spirit in"Beijing and Shanghai"debate, the democratic position in politics, and the conflict and harmony between Shen Congwen and Left-wing literature.The last part is the peroration. Shen Congwen's culture identity and cultural position are uncertain and complex. However, they are not isolated and corresponding relations. They are mutually interacted and influenced, which take the author into a complicated creation condition.
