Tse-fu yuan-gui, a 1000 chuan encyclopedia (lei-shu) edited during Sung Dynasty, was mainly written by adopting the official Dynastic History (the Seventeen Dynastic Histories), and occasionally relating the Classics, Philosophy, not taking the miscellaneous works and fiction. It specifically compiled the achievements of ancient monarchs and their subjects of successive dynasties from ancient times to the Five Dynasties. Because its scope collected is not wide, and the book cited doesn't indicate the source, quotations are often intercepted to fragment or extract the general idea, not all reproducing the original text. After its compiling, much criticism has also been exceptional. Coupled with the edition of Sung is mutilation and the edition of Ming is omission, more attention didn't not come into being as predecessors. Until modern times, scholars only have begun exploiting its value by collating and reconstructing gradually. Now we take zhang-li bu for example, using the collated edition published by Phoenix Press in 2006 as the master version, on which reference to the wood block-printed edition by Juan Yuan, the punctuated edition Shih-san-ching chu-shu published by Peking University Press and interrelated official Dynastic History. By means of collating word for word, we correct mistaken characters, fill lacunae in the text, differentiate the comments from original text, check the citations, criticize the punctuation on the basis of quotations from the Three Rituals, hoping to benefit the collation of Tse-fu yuan-gui.
