In the recent 10 years, with the fast and sustainable increasing speed of our economy and our international reputation, the raising "temperature of learning Chinese" in foreign countries and the increasing number of overseas Chinese promote the need of studying Chinese language in the whole world. However, the situation and the needs are quite different in each countries, therefore, Chinese language education work needs what is appropriate in the light of local circumstances and the research of it should be developed according to the locality. Sinology in Slovakia has a history of more than 50 years, but Chinese language education history started only from 1988. I have been involved in Chinese language education work for a long time, thus I obtained a lot of original data and material. Upon the analysis of those data and material, I proposed some practicable advice on solving the existing problems and hope to produce the direct function to Chinese language education in Slovakia.Chinese language education in Slovakia originated from Slovak Sinology, which has been developing for 50 years. During this period, there have been four generations of Sinologists, who have not only been a strong power force for the study of Slovak Sinology but also the originators and participants of early Chinese language education work in Slovakia. Through the reaserch on the issues such as regional distribution of educational intitutions in Slovakia, the teachers and students, the usage of textbooks, etc., I obtained a clear and complete picture of the current situation in Chinese language education in Slovakia. Moreover I found a number of problems such as insufficient number of Chinese language learners, deficient teaching staff, unsuitable teaching material etc. In order to obtain the comprehensive understanding of the situation, I made a survey of some Chinese language learners, and obtained some data of the learners'requirements and feelings, and made an analysis of these data. On the basis of these facts, I propose a number of suggestions, e.g. to reinforce the teaching staff, to expedite writing of textbooks, to fully accomplish the mission of the Confucius Institute, and to build the good image of our country.
