Parenting style has a significant influence on youth's self-esteem. There are some researchers were doing study on this topic, however cross-cultural comparison study is rare among China researchers.In this research, EMBU and SES questionnaires were used to investigate the cross-cultural comparison of relationship between parenting style and youth's self-esteem on 581 Standard 5 to Form 3 China (296 students) and Malaysia Chinese students (285 students). Those data are collected and analyzed by using SPSS 18.0 software. The conclusions of this research are shown as below:1. China and Malaysia Chinese students' self-esteem are significant different. China youth obtained higher marks.2. For self-esteem marks, there are no significant difference on both gender and grade factors between China and Malaysia Chinese youth. However, female student obtained a higher mark as compared to male student.3. The parenting style between China and Malaysia Chinese are significant different in fatherly and maternal emotional warmth and understanding, fatherly over protection and motherly chastisement,p<0.01.4. At China, male student scored higher marks in maternal over protection, while Malaysia male Chinese student scored higher marks in fatherly chastisement, sternness, over protection and maternal over protection.5. China's only children's with the highest self-esteem marks has significant positive correlation with both father and mother's warm and understanding factor, but it has significant negative correlation with fatherly refusal, overprotection and motherly chastisement and sternness.6. For Malaysia Chinese children with the highest self-esteem marks has significant positive correlation with fatherly emotional warmth and understanding and significant negative correlation with fatherly chastisement and sternness factors.
