When comes to discuss the meaning of contemporary art, we must find out the crisis that it came across. The most well known sentence about the canvas drawing is: canvas drawing is dead. Just like"God is dead","History is dead", canvas drawing is dead, too. Therefore, the"dead"of canvas drawing is not as we might think. It is not the end of canvas drawing which will never appear. The dead of canvas drawing has its own particular implicature, only we have known its death we can understand its reborn actually. Unlike before Renaissance, the death of ancient Greece and Rome in the Middle ages is a kind of hidden. There is no adherence to spirit and skill of drawing. After centuries, no one knows and understands the success and attainments of the past. This case can not apply to the canvas drawing in the end of 19th and the beginning of 20th century. The classic paintings are everywhere in museum, but the masters has gone. In one sense, the death of canvas drawing is suicide when it was forced into the corner. However, this kind of suicide was not executed by the painter himself, but also resulted from ego.
