| In the late 1980s, the crisis of Chinese drama was aggravated, and just at this time, avant-garde drama came into being, and attempted to infuse vigor into drama practice with novel form and clear-cut features of the time. In the past two decades, avant-garde drama has brought the art form of the minority to the general public, and its influence gives birth to the forces against the tradition, which to a certain extent changes Chinese drama pattern of the New Age. In addition, it accelerates the modernization of drama, and promotes the position of Chinese drama on the world scene, but it also exposes that more emphasis is placed on forms than theories.This article is divided into four chapters:Chapter 1 introduces the definition and characteristics of the avant-garde, and the background and history of the Chinese avant-garde drama in the New Age is also included; Chapter 2 lays emphasis on the analysis of the exploration of the forms, and that is to say, with the help of "intertextuality", such as parody, avant-garde drama breaks through the traditional pattern and becomes a stage performance with distinctive artistic features; Chapter 3 focuses on the breakthroughs in contents of avant-garde drama, and by showing their nature, desires, and appeals, people's complex state of mind in social revolutions is revealed, and its unique discourse is established with the deconstrction of the classic; Chapter 4 discusses the significance of the avant-garde to Chinese drama, and that is, it is a new model, and infuses vitality and creativity into drama practice, but it pays more attention to forms than theories, and lacks the spirit of self denial and rebellion, so it gradually lost the traits of the avant-garde. |
