The "rich people" in Yuan Dynasty are mostly survived "nans" and "southern people", who have strong economic strength. With their economic advantage, they are enabled to play roles of the intermediation, stable layer and dynamic layer in rural society, and meanwhile manage to infiltrate their economic strength into other fields. Its purpose, first of all, is to protect their private property. The second is to protect or develop the possession acquiring channel. The third is getting economic, political, social and cultural fields of satisfaction and recognition, as well as making every aspect reach a level to match with their economic status. While the Yuan Dynasty founders, who unify the empire by force, and the empire protectors are relying on the "rich people", they sustain the Mongolian lineages of noble by dividing people into four ranks and attempt to control the rise of the" rich people ". This is doomed to fail. Yuan Dynasty's "rich people" were in this background:they suffered "four-rank-people system", but still continued to play an important role in the civil facility construction and grassroots social security. Especially in the assessment of the local officials on the "five vital aspects ", the "rich people" are indispensable. Because the Yuan Dynasty's ruling class squandered their fortune without limitation, combined the frequent natural disaster, their financial situation is often tight. In order to relieve the financial stress, the ruling classes had used means like "grain exchange government position" to raise money. In the end, this policy became another way to attain government position except of the imperial examination system. To some extent, this policy provided a shortcut for the "rich people" to get a position and greatly met their thirst for political status for a long time.
