Since ancient times, coastal people are filled with worship and respect to Oceanus. People express their understanding to the ocean through fete ceremony ,and pray for sailing smoothly with religious heart,they hope the Oceanus can bless them.Mazu belief is a kind of folk beliefs and so far, the history has nearly a thousand years. In the north the folk belief is called Poseidon, but in the south it is called Mazu.On the Northern song dynasty, Mazu belief originated from fujian putian. In the river of history. Mazu, a small place god , gradually turns into the national Oceanus. An the same time,under the influence of multiple factors , Mazu belief was expanding their scope, the influence was becoming increasing. Eventually, Mazu belief became the most widely, the most far-reaching one of folk beliefs.Until today, dalian coast still retains the ceremony of puting the sea lamp for sacrificing Mazu. Puting the sea lamp in Long Wang Pont of Lushun of Dalian to Mazu belief for its source, gradually formed a fete ceremony which has many local characteristics , as a result, the culture of Mazu belief deeply accumulates in the heart and soul of the coastal residents of Dalian, and preach to later generations.Long Wang Pont of Lushun of Dalian relying on its special background of Marine culture and southern Mazu belief developed into unique and rich belief culture.
