As a part of traditional Chinese culture, Family Instruction is one of the most important means of family education in ancient China, and the most direct and concentrated expression of family ethics.This thesis starts with establishing Family Instructions of the Wei Jin Southern and Northern Dynasties period as the object of the research, by analyzing their rich cultural connotations and particular literary merits.The thesis is divided into three chapters. The first chapter gives an overview of Family Instructions of the Wei Jin Southern and Northern Dynasties. After briefly discussing Family Instructions'definition, name and history, five causes of development of Family Instructions of this period are identified, such as family development, electoral system, genealogy of family, family learning and social thought. Finally, document condition of Family Instructions of this period is listed in a table. The second chapter deals with the ideological and cultural meaning of Family Instructions of the Wei Jin Southern and Northern Dynasties. There are three sections of this chapter. It is elaborated from three aspects of the influence of social thought:confucian enlightenment of life skills concept, savings burial view and concepts on female education emphasizing family ethics. The third chapter is divided into two sections on the literary value of Family Instructions of the Wei Jin Southern and Northern Dynasties. The first section explores and analyzes a large number of literary criticism included in the Family Instructions, connecting author's other literary criticism and writing practice. The second section discusses the literary and artistic features of Family Instructions respectively in an abstract and concrete level, from two aspects that the influence of times literary and the comparison of the same author's literary works which are Family Instructions and not.
