The nature of the painting research belongs to a type of styling art. From this aspect, this dissertation is aiming to illustrate the development of Chinese contemporary art. Smiling Image can be regarded as a research phenomenon due to its highly-frequent appearance. It connects to a wide range from the variation of both the consciousness of the artist's creation and the viewer's aesthetics to the driven force of the marketing and financial capital. For the last thirty years, China has experienced an extraordinary change no matter from its economics or culture and art. And Chinese contemporary art is developing under such circumstance. Cynical Realism is the essential part of the Chinese contemporary art. Smiling Image can be seen as the common figure and it originates from the painter's copy of its self-image. What behinds this self-image copy embeds the artists'cynical attitudes towards the reality, simultaneously, to a greater depth, with the despite and criticism to the consumerism. Besides the Cynical Realism, Chinese contemporary art includes other significant works with Smiling Image, which is another research aspect of this dissertation. Taking the art history as reference, through comparison of the variation of the human figure appeared from different eras—the pre-history, classical, and modern—the significance of the smiling image is tackled, and the art context and expression behind it would be summarized. The influence of the smiling image of contemporary art is world wide. It not only achieves a higher level of the painting expression revolution but also strengthen the development of the Chinese contemporary art. Significantly, Smiling Image practically and partially reflects the spiritual condition of contemporary people as well as their attitudes as an ensemble group. |
