The use of cosmetics dates back to the Xia and Shang period, though self-sufficient agricultural society, many types of cosmetic products, covers a very wide, including the skin clean, skin care, make--up, nail, body and so on . With the development of the society, the skill of making cosmetics is gradually improved, the kinds is also increasing, the function is gradually increasing, the cosmetic products are gradual classified, the words of the cosmetics are gradually rich, and some cosmetics words gradually quit the stage of history in the development of the society, at the same time ,there are more and more new cosmetics words produced, but there are a large part of cosmetics which are still in using from ancient, and the meaning of some cosmetics words changed, or extended to other meanings, or extended by other meanings, and so on. These phenomenon are all worthy of studying. This article is trying to classify these words, the source, contrast, resolution, such as in the second chapter, the writer puts the cosmetics words into the nine categories : powder, rouge class, lipids, Dai-class veneer class , face washing, shampoo category, Hong category, nailing words .each category is divided into more small category, the writer strives to study each word, which starts from the interpretation of the wordbook, and then references in ancient literature books or the historical documents. In the third chapter , the writer try to interpret these words from the different periods of history , and try to analyze them in different history society , and try to understand the ancient culture in different periods , and then understand the aesthetic concepts, economic systems, customs and so on.
