A Dream of Red Mansions, which is a top writing of classic Chinese colloquial novels, Outlaws of the Marsh, Journey to the West and Romance of Three Kingdoms are called the"Four Famous Works"of the ancient China. Scholars have been paying attention to the language of A Dream of Red Mansions. Some think that it is Beijing dialect, some think that it is combination of Beijing dialect and Wu dialect but takes Beijing dialect as the main part and the others think that it is Jianghuai dialect. Professor Deng Niudun of Shanghai University thinks that it is Hunan dialect after he makes a careful study. The focus of disputes lies in how to deal with the dialectal words in A Dream of Red Mansions that all the scholars think. In this paper, it is thought as follows. First, the ideal and absolute dialectal words cannot generalize all the phenomena of Chinese dialectal words. All the dialectal regions communicate with and penetrate each other, so it is natural to generate the commonalities in words. Second, it is very difficult to make a conclusion if only a language is used to deal with another. Language is itself a cultural phenomenon and closely connected with culture. The dialectal regions with the similar cultural background are necessarily reflected in words, that is, they share a group of dialectal words. Therefore, in the paper, with the textual research on the cultural background of four dialectal words, the similar cultural background of Hunan dialect and Jianghuai dialect is dealt with.
