The emergence of Imagery Oil Painting is not occasional but caused by complex reasons, although conceptions about it were inverted and applied very late. Imagery oil painting results from the Chinese traditional image conception in painting, the modern western expression ideas in arts and the current objective demands for cultural convergence and creation. According to the features of the creation of imagery oil painting in aesthetic appreciation, it roughly includes three research approaches:the extension of images conveying tradition, the domestication of modern western expressional ideas, and the pioneering of new horizon in current evolution. Firstly, the paper, bases on the images in Chinese traditional arts theory, generalizes and elaborates on the aesthetic profundity of imagery oil painting from the three approaches through the retrieval of the notion of image, the brief introduction of historical origins, the analysis on the birth of imagery oil painting in China and the dissection of some artists' works. In the meantime, the paper reveals the transition of aesthetic profundity of Chinese traditional arts in modern Chinese cultural context, pointing out the significance and the ethnic value in the research of imagery oil painting in current cultural situation. The contemporary Chinese imagery oil painting, is not oil Chinese painting, and even oil literati painting, but a tentative cultural exploration by modern artists who combine our own aesthetic psychology and practice with the forms of western oil painting. Although it has weaknesses after all, generally speaking, the exploration of Chinese imagery oil painting offers us a good paradigm for fusion and creation of different artistic values.
