Solfeggio is a core course which is of great significance in the major of music. It includes two main aspects, namely, sight-singing and ear-training, which stand in an interdependent relationship with each other and, based on various teaching methods, serve to constitute the musical acoustic ability. As an elementary subject, the training of intervals plays a crucial role in the teaching of both sight-singing and ear-training.With respect to ear-training, the teaching of intervals serves as a very important method and means which is thoroughly integrated into every steps and stages of the teaching of ear-training. Specifically, intervals constitute the basis for the harmonic acoustic training. From the study of simple intervals to that of different types of complicated harmonies, the teaching of intervals stands as a main line all through. Moreover, intervals are the basis for melody dictation and deeply rooted in every aspect of teaching.By providing an elaboration on the application and practice of interval thinking in ear-training in terms of both the harmonic acoustic training and the melody-pattern/tonality training, this thesis centers on illustrating the significance of interval thinking for ear-training. With the aim of realizing the full application of the notion of interval thinking to the teaching of sight-singing and ear-training, by means of making a significant improvement on previous studies, this thesis presents an in-depth exploration on interval thinking from an innovative view. By doing so, it is expected that the preciseness, scientificity, of the teaching of sight-singing and ear-training can be raised to a new level.
