Symbols appear in the literary texts as specific markers, which mainly include alphabetic character, numeric character, substitution mark, name mark, sign of ellipsis and so on. In the narrative of the novel, these special marks are often some kind of metaphor or the symbolic clue set up deliberately by the authors which guide the readers to understand thoughts, feelings and attitudes of the works. In consideration of many Chinese and foreign novel texts, we discover in some novel texts that the symbol often presents the fuzziness, the polysemy, the directive property and the suggestibility in simple and clear energy. This phenomenon is closely related to the pluralism,occult and endophoric reference of the Eastern and Western Civilization. If we unearth thoroughly the function of these esthetic marks in the novel narrates, it aims at assisting us in understanding the hidden meaning,the vivid significance and the esthetic skill of literary texts from multiple perspectives. Only in this way, the receivers can appreciate the fluctuation narrative process of the novel texts and shorten the aesthetic distance of the relator and the ideal receiver and thus more accurately grasp the text, the maximum to avoid the generation of misreading. The third part is in the symbol signs of the narrative texts, which includes three aspects: Cultural significance of the name symbol,the literary value of alternative symbol and the ellipsis language function.In short, discussing the various representation and referent of symbols in the narrative texts, in fact, excavating the richness of the works. We believe that itself of the letter sign, digital character and symbol sign are not mystery, it is only a linguistic symbol. But it is attached to some ideas and customs by the writers, it will have a certain cultural function. We analyze the meaning of symbols in the novel texts, and its external is only its signified, but inherent significance is that the signifiant is the most core content.
