Emotion is an intention which is in the man's heart. Beauty and ugliness, like and unlike, appearance and spirit, these are all summarized into the intentional emotion in aesthetic process. They are not the actual substance, but a concept. Beauty is not alone. It is built on the existence of ugliness. If there is no ugliness, beauty will not exist either and vice versa. Like and unlike was first proposed by Shi Tao's painting theory. He said: "The wonderful painting is a state of the like and the unlike". If you paint too seems to the origin, it will be kitsch, otherwise it will be to deceive people. If state of the like and the unlike is the fundamental feature of reality in arts, the highest standard of it is to unite appearance and spirit. The greatest painter in Dongjin dynasty, Gukaizhi said "Describe the spirit through appearance and unite them together. " This emphasizes that the Chinese traditional painting is to use spirit to embody the object and to make it more vivid.Finally, elaborate the law of the unity of opposites through the factors of painting types. There are many factors of the painting types. This paper will mainly demonstrate them through the unity of hues and shapes, the lines of painting and the composition of painting. The unity of hues and shapes is between black and white, the dry ink and wet ink, heavy and light, cold and warm. In the factors of the painting types, the line is one of the main factors. There is also a kind of the law of unity of opposites in lines. For example, the sparse and dense, the long and short, the heavy and the light in lines all constitute the unity of opposites. The law of unity of opposites in composition is an important means of expression. Composition is the fundament of a perfect painting work. So where there is a good composition, there is a good work. The composition can embody the law of unity of opposites in many ways.
