The connotation of ideological and practical work is very concrete and covering wide range. It not only complements each other, but also includes other elements in the frame. Ideological and practical work is the most essential unity of opposites. The meaning of ideological and practical work is a little indistinct. It could mean artistic technique, artistic level, artistic style and so on. For this reason, many persons dispute about that frequently. Ideological and practical work, in fact, is both abstract and concrete category, which covers wide range. In most cases, the poem, literature, sculpture, painting, etc, all connect the problem of ideological and practical work.Chinese painting is not isolated, similar to other artistic categories. The Chinese poem, garden, opera, which all embody the Chinese religion, philosophy, culture, have a close relationship with Chinese painting. The theory of ideological and practical work is a feature of Chinese art.The western painting also lays stress on ideological and practical work, but it pays more attention to the scientific ray and the object reappearance. Chinese painting greatly emphasizes ideological and practical work, which is the important means of art. The right use of ideological and practical work is a kind of technique and method, but also high-level accomplishments. In my opinion, we couldn't emphasize only one part of ideological and practical work. The theory of ideological and practical work develops from antiquity to contemporary age. At present, we should recognize the spirit of ideological and practical work, which embodies the Chinese culture. It is the emotion and temperament of Chinese painters that dominates ideological and practical work.
