The Mon-pa nationality is a minority of China with a smaller population. People of this nationality live in the southeastern part of Tibet. Due to special geography and history, its society and culture are also different. Since the Democratic Revolution of Tibet, its traditional society and culture, especially the marriage and family, have been largely changing in the modern cultural environment. Based on the previous research and the results of integration by myself, this paper is going to talk about changes of marriage and family of Mon-pas in Lebu Area, and the factors which result in all these changes as well, through methods of collecting materials from historical documents, case studies and comparison and analysis. Five chapters are involved in it.Chapter I. The Introduction. It briefly lays out something related with the theme of this paper. They are the significance, summary of previous materials, the category, the main contents and methods of research.Chapter II. The introduction of the Mon-pa nationality in Lebu Area. It is mainly background information, such as the nature, the geography, the economy, the language, the people, other means, the history, the resources of this group and the folk culture of Lebu, and those of Mama Village.Chapter III. The traditional marriage of the Mon-pa nationality in Lebu Area and changes of it. This part is to be divided into the following parts: the way of making sure they are to be boyfriend and girlfriend, how to choose their spouses, during which groups can the marriage be allowed, how to ask their parents for the permit, the course of engagement, the wedding, living in whose house after wedding, sex besides that between couples and their attitudes towards it.Chapter IV. The traditional families of the Mon-pa nationality in Lebu Area and changes of it. It's mainly about the popularly existing families of monogamy now and before, families of polygamy and polyandry only be seen before the revolution. And they are individually explained in several apartments as follows: members of a family, duty of each member, rights and obligations of the husband and wife, family education, how to inherit properties from the other's parents and the trend of them. Chapter V. The factors devoted to all these changes. As for this part, six factors will be argued and that how do they affect the marriage and family of Mon-pas and what will they be in the power of these factors will also be deleted. The six factors are the social revolution, the development of traffic, science and technology, the economy, effect of other cultures, the development of education and effect of policies and political events.Changes of the marriage and family of Mon-pas of Lebu area before and after the Democratic Revolution of Tibet and factors devoted to all these changes as well are systematically and entirely studied in this paper. The studies of them are theoretically and practically valuable to our knowledge of the marriage and family, even the development of the society of the Mon-pas. Also, the studies offer an example to those who study the adaptation and changes of the traditional culture of minorities with smaller population in China in the surrounding of modern society and culture.
