Changling, Wang is a renowned poet and literary in the heyday of Tang dynasty, whose literary theoretic has far-reaching influence on later periods. Nevertheless, there is not yet a systematic summary on his lifetime and more light needs to be shed on the thoughts reflecting in his work Shi Ge. Based on the supplementary documents on Wang's lifetime, this paper emphasizes on the revelation of Shi Ge from various aspects. And Wang's lifetime and literary thought will be elaborated by comparison and examples analysis from a historical perspective which goes backs from the dawn of Tang dynasty, to Wei, Jin and the Pre-Qin dynasty.The paper comprises three chapters.Chapter one: researches on Wang's lifetime Wang's lifetime can be divided into two periods and the two sections of this chapter depict each period respectively. Section one introduces Wang's lineage, birth, relatives and early lifetime, ranging from his time in Bashang to the florescence of his talents; section two represents his checkered life from a frequently demoted to a hopelessly disheartened man on the trails of the accurate time of his demotions.Chapter two: the context of Shi Ge and relevant information The first two sections carry out an investigation on the authenticity of Shi Ge and the time and locale of its creation respectively; Then the third focuses on the context of the period when Shi Ge was composed from perspectives regarding politics, literary and the poet's lifetime.Chapter three: the fundamental thoughts of Shi Ge. Section one and two mainly elucidate the meaning of this masterpiece and its nature-oriented character. Section three introduces Wang's unique poetic imagery, by comparing it with Liuxie's and stressing Wang's distinctive perceptions.Finally, Wang inherited his predecessor's accomplishments in a critical and humble manner, which gave birth to his unique system of poetic theory. |
