Autism is a kind of developmental disorder which can not be cured, now, moststudy of this area in our country are about the intervention and theory study of autism,few about the group of the mother of children with autism. The purpose of this study isto investigate the parenting stress and social support of the mother of children withautism in the process of raising in main city zoon of Chongqing.The study adopt questionnaire survey, mothers of autistic children in the autismrehabilitation institution of main city zoon of Chongqing are chosen as study subjects.Take brief parenting stress scale, social support type and source of support scale andself interview outline as research tools. A total of100questionnaires were issued andrecovery of51valid questionnaires(the response rate:51%). Using SPSS software,adopting mean and standard deviation, Pearson Product-Moment correlation to analyzethe data of those scales. The major findings of this study are:1. The study subjects' scores on the brief parenting stress scale indicated that thereexsist a big difference about the scores of51mothers of autistic children, those scoresare between82to149, Score that reach100points are37people, accounted for73%ofthe total number. Sort according to the scores,"having a difficult child" contributed tothe most pressure on mothers, followed by "parental distress","dysfunctionalparent-child interaction" contributed to the least.2. The study subjects' scores on the types of social support scale indicated thatmothers of children with autism in Chongqing are in urgent need of knowledge aboutautism early intervention and medical rearing, what mothers of autistic childrenreceived most is tool support, followed by emotional support, the least support for theinformation. 3. The study subjects' scores on the resources of social support scale indicated that,mothers of children with autism in Chongqing get more support from informal socialsupport. The survey also found that, other autism parents play an important role in theinformal social support.4. The correlation resuls revealed that the majority of the significant negativecorrelation existed among tool support, types of social support, parental distress,dysfunctional parent-child interaction and parental stress, whereas the official support,resources of social support and parenting stress total table and each subscale were notrelated to the existence. In correlation between tool support and every levels of parentalstress, having a difficult child have no relate with tool support, all other levels ofparental stress are significantly related to tool support. Emotional support, informationalsupport and dysfunctional parent-child interaction was significant negative correlation.Emotional support, informal support and parenting stress was significantly negativelycorrelated. Informal support and parental distress was significantly negatively correlated.It is worth noting that there existed a significant correlation between tool support andparental stress total scale.Based on the findings and conclusions, the study put forward some suggestions, inthe hope of providing reference for mothers of children with autism in main city zoon ofChongqing, autism rehabilitation institutions, general education, government agencies,and future research.
