Background: Esophageal cancer, which is the eighth most commoncancer worldwide, can be subdivided into two major histologic types:esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) and esophageal adenocarcinoma(EAC). The clinical and molecular features of these two cancer types differ inseveral important ways. According to statistics, the worldwide annualesophageal cancer new cases approximately310,400, while China accountedfor167200[1].In North China, three provinces is the high incidence area ofesophageal cancer. The study found that the incidence of esophageal cancermay be related to dietary habits, smoking, alcohol consumption, nutrition, esophagus chronic inflammation and genetic predisposition. In recent years, esophageal cancer molecular biology level have made great progress, related tocancer gene and tumor-suppressor genes for esophageal occurrence anddevelopment of function. The p16gene is a multiple tumor suppressor genes, which is also a cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor and participate in theregulation of cell cycle, the abnormal of the p16gene is closely related withthe formation and occurrence of multiple tumors.Purpose:1The expression of P16protein in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma andesophageal normal tissue2The clinical relevance of P16protein and esophageal squamous cellcarcinoma in lymph node metastasis and smoking and alcoholism. Methods: Collected102cases of esophageal squamous cell carcinomapatients in our hospital as the experimental group from November2010toNovember2011,96cases of normal esophageal tissues as a control group, extracted specimens tissue protein. Detected P16protein expression in102 cases of esophageal squamous cell cancer and96cases of normal esophagealtissue by western blot experiments, calculated the positive rate of P16proteinexpression, thus analysed the cases in this group comprehensively. In thisstudy, data statistical methods:use SPSS13.0version software package forstatistical analysis, The measurement data were analyzed by t-test, count datawere analyzed by χ~2or corrected χ~2test.Results: All the102cases of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma tissue, the positive expression rate of P16protein was44.12%;96cases of esophagealnormal tissue, P16protein positive expression rate was94.79%(P <0.05).Lymph node metastasis of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma tissues, the positive expression rate of P16protein was28.19%,without lymph nodemetastasis the rate was71.05%(P <0.05). The expression of P16protein hadno related with age, sex (P>0.05), while had related with drinking alcohol, smoking (P <0.05).Conclusion: The abnormal expression of p16protein has related with theoccurrence and development of esophageal carcinoma, the p16protein mightbe an auxiliary indexes for clinical diagnosis and judgment of malignantdegree.
