Research On The Relationship Between The Disaster Exposure, The Sense Of Control, And PTSD Of Middle School Students After Disaster

On May 12,2008, the earthquake of wenchuan swallows thousands of lives and submerged hundreds of houses. The damages of family, the casualties of relatives, and their own sieges and injuries etc., the people in disaster areas were exposed to this catastrophe entirely. The PTSD means that suddenly, threatening or catastrophic life events lead to postponed emergency and lasting existence of individuals' mental disorder. The main symptoms of those patients are avoidance, intruding, and alertness increase. The sense of control means that in what degree an individual can control the perception and belief of environmental events. The negative consequences that earthquake brought are to make people's security sense and control sense decrease. The paper studied the relationship between Traumatic Exposure, the sense of control and PTSD of secondary school students after the earthquake disaster..This study adopted questionnaire method. These authoritative questionnaires include<Primary and Secondary Control of Belief Scale, Chinese version>, <CPSS>, and the degree of disaster exposure and self-edited questionnaire, students from seven middle schools received these tests in wenchuan county and mao county. And the statistics was gathered three times altogether. The analysis of those statistics adopts Independent t-test, correlation analysis, variance test, and intermediary effect test etc. by SPSS 18.0. Through theoretical analysis, research assumptions, tests and analyzing, the conclusions are made as follows:1:The situations of PTSD of students after earthquake:according to detection rate, the three rates of middle school students in wenchuan are 29.7%,25.8% and 25.8%. The female's rate is higher than male's. On grades, the senior high middle school students' rate is higher than middle school students' generally. Students'of Qiang people is highest among different peoples.2:The situation of control sense of students after earthquake:the control sense of middle school and senior school students focused on secondary control, in one year after earthquake, there is a significant difference on genders.3:the degree of disaster exposure has significant positive correlation with PTSD, and this means PTSD can be predicted.4:The control sense function as intermediary role on the relationship between disaster exposure and PTSD. Its influential mechanism has three paths:subjective fear influences the intruding on symptoms of PTSD through indirect control; Subjective fear influences the avoidance on symptoms of PTSD through indirect control; Death of relatives influences the avoidance on symptoms of PTSD through emotional control...
