According to scientific theory and data analysis, the purpose of this study was to explore the actual empathy training for nurse managers and determine whether the training enhanced the empathy of nurse managers. Suppose that the empathy training could enhance the nurse managers'ability in the interaction.In this study, empathy48nurse managers from the positive participants at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University. They were randomly allocated to intervention group and comparison group. Empathy training was conducted only in intervention group. Data were collected using Interpersonal Reactivity Index(IRI), the Jefferson Scale of empathy(JSE), Participants'feedback form, participants'record, observers'record. The IRI and JSE were used as both a preintervention and a post intervention measure.Results:In the quantitative analysis:A significant difference was found for the increase in IRI and JSE scores. In the qualitative analysis:Empathy training could improve the empathy of nurse managers in the cognitive empahty, emotional empathy, expressing empathy, from low-level to high-level, from passive to active, from the classroom to everyday life, caring for others, understanding others.Conclusion:Empathy training could improve the empathy of nurse managers.
