Objective:The aim of this study was to compare the treatment efficiency, root resorption between self-ligating brackets and conventional brackets in extraction patients, and to provide an evidence for clinical application. Methods:Thirty cases with ClassⅠorⅡmoderate crowding maloccdusion were selected.15 patients treated with self-ligating brackets (Damon 3MX) and 15 patients with conventional brackets were chosen respectively. The duration of alignment and leveling, en-mass space closure, overall treatment in months, number of visit and incisors external apical root resorption (EARR) were recorded and compared. The data were statistically analyzed.Results:(1) Treatment efficiency:①The duration of alignment and leveling was 5.8±2.10 months in Damon 3MX group, and 4.5±0.71 months in conventional brackets group, there was no statistical difference (P=0.071>0.05).②The duration of en-mass space closure was 8.3±3.65 months in Damon 3MX group, and 6.6±2.99 months in conventional brackets group, there was no statistical differences(P=0.271>0.05).③The duration of overall treatment was 20.4±5.04 months in Damon 3MX group, and 16.8±2.66 months in conventional brackets group, there was no statistical differences (P=0.061>0.05).④The number of visit was 19.0±4.83 times in Damon 3MX group, and 16.4±3.41 times in conventional brackets group, there was no statistical differences (P=0.181>0.05)(2) External apical root resorption:①The amount in maxillary central incisors were 2.05±1.51mm in Damon 3MX group, and 2.08±1.21mm in conventional brackets group, there was no statistical difference (P=0.973>0.05).②The root resorption of maxillary lateral incisor was 1.77±1.01mm in Damon 3MX group, and 1.91±1.59mm in conventional brackets group, there was no statistical difference (P=0.848>0.05).③The root resorption of mandibular central incisors was 2.06±1.62mm in Damon 3MX group, and1.98±1.50mm in conventional brackets group, there was no statistical difference (P=0.926>0.05).④The root resorption of mandibular lateral incisor was 1.94±1.45mm in Damon 3MX group, and 1.84±1.17mm in conventional brackets group, there was no statistical difference (P=0.888>0.05)Conclusion:(1)Damon 3MX self-ligating brackets are no more efficient than conventional brackets in extraction patients with moderately crowded.(2)There is no difference between Damon 3MX self-ligating brackets and conventional brackets in incisors root resorption after orthodontic treatment of extraction patients with moderately crowded.
