Objective:To observe the clinical efficiency of Ilizarov technique in the correction of talipes equinovarus, to explore operative methods, needle fixation, Postoperative hypervisor of Ilizarov technique in the correction of talipes equinovarus and to find the key points about them in the clinical course. Methods:From January 2009 to October 2010,20 patients (23 feet) were corrected with Ilizarov's orthosis devices, which involved 16 males and 4females, whose average age was 20.5 years old (ranged from 6-39 years). The right foot was afflicted in 12 patients, and the left foot in 5, both side in 3. Cause:11 were talipes equinovarus,7 were caused by trauma,1 by complication from encephalitic paralysis and 1 by the polimyelitis among these patients. At the same time,5 patients (7 feet) have been enforced the limited tarsal osteotomy. The dynamic muscle balance operation were performed in 2 patients (3 feet) with imbalance of muscle strength and amputation of plantar fascia in7 patients (9 feet). All these patients' achilles tendon was lengthened. The telescopic rods on the apparatus were rotated 5-7 days after the operation. The deformity of talipes equinovarus, internal rotation and the drooping of the forefoot were gradually corrected, and maintained the external fixation orthosis for another 2-3 months. The patients were encouraged to have weight-bearing during the treatment period. Results:All of the 20 patients were followed up from 5 to 26 months, with an average 14 months. All of deformities in the feet were corrected satisfactorily, full feet contacted with the ground in stand or walking and achieved with good function and patients and relatives are satisfied. There was no recurrence of the deformity. No complication, such as skin necrosis, nonunion, Serious infection in the incision and pin tract, ankle dislocation and neurovascular injury was occurred in this group. Conclusion:Ilizarov technique for treatment of clubfoot deformity is minimally invasive, safe and simple method, less complication and can activate postoperative patients early. It is recommended extensive application in clinic.
