With the rapid development of automobile industry, welding has been more widely used as a very important manufacturing processing technology in auto manufacturing. In auto welding process, resistance welding and carbon dioxide arc welding are often used to improve the welding quality, welding speed and reduce production costs. However, carbon dioxide arc welding could produce large amounts of welding fumes which will bring great harm to the workers. Therefore, the design of a complete set of ventilation and dust control system has considerable value. This article is mainly about a design of carbon dioxide welding fumes control system in a automobile plant. The carbon dionxide welding machine was arranged in a separate chamber in welding workshop. Whole room ventilation and up-supply and down-discharge air distribution mode was used in the chamber according to the diffusion characteristics of welding fumes. Air diffuser located in the lower place and 48 exhaust hoods arranged in two row in the celling of the chamber. Two dust control systems were built to control fumes and assembly ductworks were selected to transport the dust. Based on the particle size range of welding fumes and purification requirements, bag filter with PTFE coating filer were used in the system. The power for the system was provided by T4-72 centrifugal fan.Determination of dust concentration was carried out in the carbon dioxide welding chamber after the installation of the system. Results showed that the concentration of welding fumes fully in line with national occupational exposure limits and the emission concentration was also reached the national emission standard. The operation results of the system achieved desired effect.
