Objective:To investigate the effect of suifotanshinone sodium (STSI) on the growth of SMMC-7721 heptoma cells. Methods:To observe cell morphology treated by different concentrations of STSI under the microscope on; Cell proliferation and adhesion were measured by MTT assay; Flow cytometry was applied to measure the effect of STSI on cell cycle and apoptosis of SMMC-7721. Gene expression was detected by RT-PCR.Results:With the increasing doses of STSI, the morphology of the hepatoma cells changed obviously; MTT assay showed that at 24h,48hand 72h after the treatment with STSI,the inhibition ratio demonstrated a dose-and-time-dependent relationship; Flow cytometry showed that the hepatoma cell was arrested in cell cycle with increased apoptosis. Expression of VEGF gene decreased obviously. Conclusion:STSI can obviously inhibit proliferation of SMMC-7721 in vitro, and can induce apoptosis of SMMC-7721 cells.
