Risk Factor Study On Cataract Among The Middle-aged People In Dalian City

Objective: To investigate the various factors of cataract formation among the middle-aged people in Dalian city and to provide scientific basis for taking measures in cataract prevention.Methods: A 1:1 matched case-control study was carried out, selected from March 2009 to March 2010 people aged 40-55 and who were at that time patients of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University, a total of 40 cases. At the same time in accordance with the principle of 1:1 matching, 40 non-cataracts were selected at random, and they were 40-55 aged persons and have their physical examination in the hospital. Matching conditions: the same sex, age±2 years. 40 pairs of cataract patients and controls were used the unified design of the questionnaire, conducted by the same investigator. All the available information from the questionnaire were entered into the Excel table to establish a database, and were analyzed by adopting SPSS 16.0 software. Primarily on the basis of the types of information, single factor condition logistic regression analysis was used for single factor analysis, while multivariate condition logistic regression analysis was adopted for multivariate analysis.Result: Univariate analysis showed that cataract among the middle-aged people in Dalian city was closely connected with level of education, service life of cell phone, number of phone talks and its talk time, hypertension, smoking, alcohol drinking, monthly income and tea drinking. Service life of cell phone, number of phone talks and its talk time, hypertension and smoking were probable the major risk factors for cataract(p<0.05,OR>l), while tea drinking was probable the protective factor(p<0.05,OR<l). Multivariate condition logistic regression analysis further showed that the major risk factors were hypertension, smoking and service life of cell phone, the protective factor was tea drinking.Conclusion: The Dalian City delivers the occurrence of cataract and gets in touch with hypertension, smoking, service life of cell phone and tea drinking. The first three factors are the risk factors and tea drinking is the protective one. Service of cell phone is becoming one of the major risk factors, especially for people who use their phone for ten years and more, the incidence of cataract among them is higher than people who do not use cell phones for so many years.
