Objective To compare the clinical effect of conventional thoracotomy and video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery(VATS) in treatment for pulmonary sequestration, discussing the clinical value of video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery. Methods Retrospective analysed the 33 cases of pulmonary sequestration in the First Hospital of Dalian Medical University from January 2000 to December 2010. 33 cases were divided into two groups, including 11 cases were treated with VATS, and 22 cases were treated with conventional thoracotomy. Compared the operative time, incision length, blood loss, the time of chest drainage and the postoperative hospital stay. Results 22 cases were treated with conventional thoracotomy. 11 cases were treated with VATS. There are statistically difference in experimental group about the postoperative hospital stay time(4.27±0.27)day, incision length(5.36±0.16)cm and the time of chest drainage ( 3.09±0.21 ) day compared with conventional thoracotomy(control group) (P<0.05). No statistically difference existed in the operative time between the experimental group(115.91±11.576)min and the control group(137.50±7.81)min(P>0.05).Conclusion Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery(VATS) in the treatment of pulmonary sequestration is better than conventional thoracotomy in incision length, blood loss, time of chest drainage and postoperative hospital stay. There is significantly clinical value.
