Objective:Use the CT measurements of the regular hip to help understand the morphology of the femoral head, neck, tuberosity and their correlation. This can also help to provide morphological evidence for the operative in the traditional Chinese medicine clinical. Methods:Use the femoral head and neck CT of 80 normal adults whose age, gender and family name are unknown. We use the siemens sensation 16CT scanner to measure by setting the layer thickness 5mm and the layer distance 5mm. In the CT-chip, select the section which is the remotest and lowest edge in the femoral head as the standard plane. Then take the center of the femoral head and the midpoint of the narrowest part of the femoral neck, connect these two points to draw a line to cross the tuberosity. Draw a parallel line which cross the widest place of the tuberosity and we can find two endpoints of this widest segment.Image processing:Than we use Photoshop 11.0 to measure the selected CT images, use this software to measure the two distances between each of the endpoints and the cross line. Results:We measure the distances between 80 normal adults' femoral head, neck axis and the tangent distance of the widest points of the tuberosity. Than we calculated the ratio of the distances in different CTs. Then we get: sample mean 0.49, sample standard deviation 0.06, the average sampling error of 0.01, confidence level 0.95, T quantile bilateral distribution 2.02, allowable error of 0.02, confidence lower limit 0.47, confidence higher limit 0.51.Conclusion:The measuring date tells us that the point of intersection of the femoral head, neck axis and the tuberosity does not at the mid-point of the tuberosity but in favor of the front. The rate between the entire front side femur and the femoral is 0.32 to 0.33, this rate similar to the golden ratio. This measurement results have a highly significance in the pin orientation of the DHS system.
