Objective Folk medical herb Sikuaiwa has a long history in expelling wind, removing cold, eliminating stasis to activate blood circulation and detumescence. It is usually used to treat bone fracture, rheum arthritis and other similar disease. Do research on the Chinese medical herb Sikuaiwa can prevent misusing and abusing. Methods Study the botanical origin of Chinese medical herb Sikuaiwa with a critical study of ancient Chinese herbals. By using botanic identification, characteristics identification, micro characteristics identification, physical identification and chemistry identification to identify 10 different batches Sikuaiwa. Analysis was carried out at 25℃on a Diamonsil C18 (5μm,250mm×4.6mm) eluted with methanol and water in gradient mode. The flow rate was 1. OmL·min-1, and the detection wavelength was 232 nm.Results 1. The Chiense medical herb Sikuaiwa was called Guiduyou, Shuijinhua (two species), Sidatianwang, Luodimei, Caoxi, and the radix, rhizome and herbs were for medicinal use. The botanical origin of Jiji should be Chloranthus serratus (Thunb.) Roem. et Schult., C. japonicus Sieb., and other sibling plants. And that Shuijinhua (the second one) was originated from Chloranthus fortunei (A. Gray) Solms. Those originated from Chloranthus SW. were called "Baisikuaiwa" usually. Meanwhile, Caoxi, Sidatianwang, Luodimei, Guiduyou, and Shuijinhua (the first one) were all originated from Lysimachia pardiformis Franch., generally named "Hongsikuaiwa"2. There are four kinds of Sikuaiwa, and they are from 14 species. Hongsikuawi were from Lysimachia pardiformis Franch. and L. trientaloides Hemsl. While Baisikuaiwa were from Chloranthus serratus (Thunb.) Roem. et Schult., C. henryi Hemsl, C. for tunei (A. Gray) Solms., C. Japonicus Sieb., C. multistachys P'ei, C. hupehens Pamp, C. angustifolius, C. sessililfolius, C. holostegius (Hand-Mazz) Pei et shan. Dasikuwai was from Rodgersia aesculifolia Batal. And there were two other species, which were Rubia maillardi Lev1. et Van and Peperomia reflexa (L. f.) A. Dietr.3.Identify 10 batches Sikuaiwa by pharmacognosy methods and physics-chemisitry methods. Made keys for varieties about its plant and micro characteristic. UV spectra indicated that Chloranthus serratus had maximum absorption at 420nm and 670nm wavelength, while the mixture of Lysimachia pardiformis Franch., Rodgersia aesculifolia Batal and C. Japonicus Sieb. had maximum absorption at 280nm wavelength.4. Establish the HPLC fingerprint of Sikuaiwa(Chloranthus serratus was the main variety). Six peaks were identified as the characteristic finger prints of Sikuaiwa. The similarity of 10 batches Sikuaiwa was almost higher than 0.9. It indicated that the same variety had the same peak area ratio, the method was stable and feasible, which could be a reference for quality control. Conclusions 1. Sikuaiwa is the generic name of Jiji and its similarity, and which has four resources. And Baisikuaiwa and Hongsikuaiwa are the common use. Baisikuaiwa has toxicity, and its dosage is 1.5-3. Og. Meanwhile the dosage of Hongsikuaiwa was 15-30g, so they should not be misused.2. Establish the finerprint, of Baisikuaiw(Chloranthus serratus was the main variety.) by HPLC. The retention time is stabile, reproducibility is well, and it can provide a reference for quality control.
