Objective To explore the gastric accommodation of functional dyspepsia (postprandial distress syndrome) patients, and to study the effects of gender, age, and body mass index in subjects. Methods Twenty-five PDS patients and twenty healthy sunjects received liquid nutrient load test, record the Maximum tolerated volume(MTV).Results⑴A significant difference in MTV was detected between PDS patients and healthy sunjects.⑵A significant difference in MTV was detected between males and females.⑶In both groups, age dose not appear to influence MTV.⑷BMI-related differences in MTV were noted in healthy volunteers, but not in PDS patients. Conclusion In PDS patients, gastric accommodation was impaired, and BMI appears to influence MTV in healthy volunteers. Objective To explore the orocecal transit time (OCTT) of two subgroups of functional dyspepsia, and to study the effects of gender, age and body mass index(BMI) in subjects. Methods Twenty-five postprandial distress syndrome (PDS) patients,twenty-two epigastric pain syndrome (EPS) patients and twenty healthy volunteers were involved. All of them received breath hydrogen test, and the OCTT was recorded.Results⑴A significant difference in OCTT was detected between PDS patients and healthy volunteers, but not between EPS patients and healthy volunteers.⑵Gender dose not appear to influence OCTT in all three groups.⑶There were positive correlation between age and OCTT in healthy volunteers, but not in PDS patients and EPS patients.⑷BMI-related differences in OCTT were noted in healthy volunteers, but not in PDS patients and EPS patients. Conclusion In PDS patients, intestinal transit function were impaired;age and BMI appear to influence OCTT in healthy volunteers.
