For Chinese Virginia type cigarette, how to selectively lower the content of harmful components in the cigarette smoke and keep the intrinsic fragrance sensory and physiologic infensity is a popular objective and research issue for the tobacco industry, as well as a global difficulty for the environmental field. This project, specific to the features of harmful components in the Virginia type cigarette, uses VACF (viscose-fiber-based activated carbon fiber) as basic material, surface modification was performed by means of non-thermal plasma, SEM, XPS and specific area/porosity analyzer were used to characterize the physical property of the surface structure of ACF after modification. The effects of different modifications with respect to gas, discharging voltage and discharging time on the formaldehyde absorption efficiency of ACF were also studied. And then loads substances having adsorb-catalyze function, such as nano-TiO2 Cu, Pd, and forms new function materials, resulting into dual-filter with cellulose fiber in a definite proportion. This new cigarette can reduce the tar, CO, Benzo [a] pyrene selectively and efficiently without change fragrance and tastity of the cigarette, while in the precondition of having no other accessory poison functions. It also predict mechanism of possibly reducing the harmful components by characterization the new function materials, which provides theoretic basement for further optimizing experiments. This technique has great prospect in practice. If employed in mass production, based on laboratory research after solving possible problems in the process of production, it will lead to enormous social effect and economic effect.
