ObjectiveChronic pain is a common clinical symptom of hemodialysis patients, wheras the cause and the incidence of pain in current research is quite rare. This study aimed to investigate the cause and the influencing factors of hemodialysis patients with chronic pain, and give guidance to the treatment of chronic pain in maintenance hemodialysis patients.MethodsUsing the Brief Pain Inventory (BPI) to assess pain, this study selected 80 patients who had at least 6 months of MHD(maintenance hemodialysis ) in the hemodialysis center of Nanshan hospital of Shenzhen. For chronic pain is defined as pain lasting at least 3 months, we have collected each patient's age, gender, body mass index, blood dialysis duration, primary disease and blood biochemical parameters. And then use a statistical method to analyze the relationship between these indicators and chronic pain.ResultsIn the 80 patients we have selected, the mean age was 46±14 years old, the average dialysis time was 37.0±28.6 months long, and 39 cases (48.8%) patients with chronic pain in which16 patients (20%) were moderate with severe pain. Muscle pain and neuropathic pain are the most important forms of these pains. The data between the two groups of pain and without pain, T test showed that the time between the two groups of dialysis, serum calcium, phosphorus product, parathyroid hormone have a significantly difference (P <0.05). The age, gender, body mass index, hemoglobin, serum albumin, phosphorus and C-reactive protein do not have a significantly difference (P> 0.05). Dialysis time, blood calcium, bood calcium and phosphorus product, parathyroid hormone (iPTH) and the occurrence of pain have a positive correlation, the correlation coefficient are 0.436, 0.812, 0.201, 0.470.ConclusionBlood calcium, bood calcium and phosphorus product, parathyroid hormone (iPTH), dialysis time, are closely related to chronic pain in long-term hemodialysis patients.
