Objective: To observe the efficacy of percutaneous kyphoplasty for osteoporotic vertebral compressive fractures, and explore the association between pain score and loss rate of vertebral height by variance of perioperative vertebral height and easement of pain. Background: percutaneous vertebroplasty is a new minimally invasive spinal surgery, which is widely applied in the treatments of osteoporotic vertebral compressive fractures, vertebral metastatic tumor, myeloma and lymphoma, and achieve great curative effect. PKP is developed on the basement of PVP. OVCFS is the common complication of senile fracture which can lead to low back pain. Controversy still exists among the treatments. The tendency of modern surgery is minimal invasive, relative simple, safe, fast restored, and few complication. Methods: Retrospective analysis about the data of 31VCF vertebraes. The degree of compression is from 15%-50%. And PKP was Performed at all patients. The change of visual analogue score(VAS), vertebral height of anterior border and central region and Cobb angle were measured Preoperatively and on postoperative 24h,1 week, lmonth. explore the association between pain score and loss rate of vertebral height. Results: The total 23 operations were done successfully, a single segment of the average operative time was about 63.6min, and there was not neurological sympotoms. The volume of injection is 3.00-6.00ml. and the bone cements had good distribution. Preoperative,24h, lweek and lyear VAS score were:(8.1±0.4), (2.8±0.9), (2.5±0.9), (2.5±0.5), respcetively. The preoperative anterior, the middle vertebral heights were (19.5±1.5)mm,(25.4mm±l.1)mm,(25.1±5.0')mm, The postoperative heights were (24.3±1.9)mm,(29.7±1.3)mm,(10.7±2.8) mm. The height and vas score improved significantly after the surgery(P<0.05).Conclusion: PKP can restore the height of vertebrae, and the height have positive correlation with the easement of pain. PKP can improve the function of the vertebrae. we should pay more attention on restoring the height and kyphotic angle.
