Traditional Chinese herbal formula is the main form of treatment. It is a concrete manifestation of syndrome differentiation theory. For a long time, the relations of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) depend on experience. While, with the development of science and technology, we should not only observe and describe the phenomena, but also explain and illustrate the nature, to meet the requirement of modernization of TCM and clinical medication. The experimental study of the compatibility relations should be based on the theory of TCM, combined with modern experimental techniques. While, theory of TCM is often ignored in today's research. In the present research, Sini Decoction was taken as the model. The research was based on the theory of TCM, using of modern thermodynamic method (microcalorimetry), combined with material base and pharmacodynamics. The compatibility relations of Sini Decoction were revealed from three angles:quality, energy and effect. The main research methods and results were as follows.1. Researches on material base in compatibility relations of Sini DecoctionAconitum Alkaloids were the main active ingredient, but they also were toxic ingredient. Through the research of the alkaloid dissolution, the compatibility relations were revealed. The content of Aconitum Alkaloids was determined by UV method in Aconite, Aconite and Dried Ginger, Aconite and Glycyrrhiza uralensis, Sini Decoction. The results showed that, Glycyrrhiza uralensis could significantly reduce the dissolution of Aconitum Alkaloids. Dried Ginger had little effect on the dissolution of Aconitum Alkaloids. The dissolution of Aconitum Alkaloids was slightly lower in Sini Decoction.2. Researches on thermokinetic theory in compatibility relations of Sini DecoctionFour properties is one of the most essential theories of TCM. Aconite is extremely hot in property. Dried ginger is hot in property. Glycyrrhiza uralensis is mild in property. It's also believed that "Aconite is not hot without Dried Ginger, mild with Glycyrrhiza uralensis". In this research, E. coli was chosen as model bacteria. The power-time curves of the bacterial growth with drugs were plotted with microcalorimeter. According to thermal dynamic model, the growth rate constantμ, peak-time Tp and peak-height Pm were calculated. According to the changes of E. coli growth in Aconite, Aconite and Dried Ginger, Aconite and Glycyrrhiza uralensis, Sini Decoction, the compatibility relations on thermodynamics could be explained. The result revealed there was no relationship between active ingredients and single herb. The metabolic power of E. coli was increased with aconite and dried ginger. The metabolic power of E. coli was slightly increased with Glycyrrhiza uralensis. It was coincided with "Aconite is extremely hot. Dried ginger is hot. Glycyrrhiza uralensis is mild". The metabolic power of E. coli was more increased with Aconite and Dried Ginger than Aconite. The metabolic power of E. coli was less increased with Aconite and Glycyrrhiza uralensis than Aconite. It was coincided with "Aconite is not hot without Dried Ginger, mild with Glycyrrhiza uralensis"3. Researches on pharmacodynamics in compatibility relations of Sini DecoctionSini Decoction has the effect of stimulating heart, boosting pressure. In this research, according to the effect of Aconite, Aconite and Dried Ginger, aconite and Glycyrrhiza uralensis, Sini Decoction, Sini Decoction on the blood pressure of rat, the compatibility relations could be revealed. The result revealed that, the blood pressure was raised with Aconite. The blood pressure wave was abnormal asymmetric. The blood pressure fluctuated with time prolonged. The blood pressure slowly declined with Aconite and Dried Ginger or Glycyrrhiza uralensis. The blood pressure wave became symmetric. It revealed that Dried Ginger and Glycyrrhiza uralensis could alleviate the toxicity of Aconite. Meanwhile, the effect of boosting pressure weakened. After administration of Sini Decoction, the blood pressure raised less than Aconite. The blood pressure wave was symmetric and the blood pressure didn't fluctuate. It demonstrated that, Sini Decoction can ease the intense nature of Aconite and reduce the adverse effects of Aconite. In the present study, the research of compatibility relations of Sini Decoction was taken from three angles:quality, energy and effect. It was a useful attempt combined with microcalorimetry and thermokinetic theory. It provided a new idea for the study of compatibility relations.
