Objective:To observe the clinical efficacy of treating knee osteoarthritis with fire needle and acupuncture respectivelyMethod:According to the diagnostic criteria and inclusion criteria, a total number of 60 patients were chosen and they completed treatment. The patients were divided into two groups using the statistical table for random selection. There were 30 patients in each group, treatment with fire needle group and treatment with acupuncture needle group.Points of clinical symptoms and signs were collected and given statistical analysis so as to compare clinical effects of treating Visual Analogousseale, VAS, with fire needle and acupuncture respectively.Result:By chi-square test and t-test the baseline data of patients in two groups were comparable (P>0.05).Both fire needle and acupuncture groups achieved good clinical effect after treatment. However, the overall effective rate of the fire needle group was better. P=0.0,<0.01. Comparison of the two groups showed no significant difference on overall effective rate using Visualanalogousseale, VAS. Before treatment the t score is (P> 0.249,>0.05). After treatment, the t score is P=0.004,<0.01, There is significant difference and improvement of the fire needle group. Both groups, however, did not show any negative side effect. Conclusion:Both fire needle and acupuncture therapy can significantly reduce clinical symptoms and signs of KOA patients, improve their daily living activities and relieve their pains. Comparing the VAS after treatment, the difference between the two groups was statistically significant (P<0.05) This shows that fire needle therapy was better than pure acupuncture in relieving pains of Kneeosteoarthritis (KOA) patients.
