Background:Adhesive capsulitis of the shoulder, also know as frozen shoulder, is a disorder in which the shoulder capsule, the connective tissue surrounding the glenohumeral joint of the shoulder, becomes inflamed and stiff, and grows together with abnormal bands of tissue, called adhesions, greatly restricting motion and causing chronic pain. The condition rarely appears in people under 40 years old and the age range of 40-60 is most prone it.Frozen shoulder is a painful and disabling condition that often causes great frustration for patients. According to studies, approximately 20.6% of the patients can self-recover without any treatment, but the process could last from 6 months to 3 or more years. People who suffer from the condition have extreme difficulty working and going about normal life activities. The slow recovery is very taxing. Thus, early diagnosis and early treatment are critical. Besides medication and physical therapy, acupuncture has its long history in the treatment of adhesive capsulitis. It is not only effect, but also free of side-effects.Objective:To investigate the curative effect of QI CI combined with exercise in the treatment of adhesive capsulitis, and divide the patients into 2 groups randomly.Method:A total of fifty adhesive capsulitic patients were randomly divided into treatment groups and control groups. The prior used QI CI combined with exercise and the latter used common acupuncture combined with exercise. After a course of treatment, all observed data such as level of pain, degree of motion.and joint function were recorded. Results:1.The level of pain, joint function and degree of motion were assessed and found that the before and after change was very significant in both groups(p<0.01).2.The effective rates were determined after treatment, and found that the treatment group has significantly better improvements than the control group(p<0.01 and p<0.05, respectively).3.The level of pain was assessed according to the VAS Pain Score. It was found that the before and after change was significant in both treatment and control group(p<0.01 and p<0.05, respectively). Conclusions:The treatment of adhesive capsulitis using QI CI combined with exercise is more effective than common acupuncture combined with exercise.
