Abstract/Summary:
Objective: Study the clinical effect of combined acupuncture and TDP treatment on adhesive capsulitis (also known as frozen shoulders or scapulohumeral periarthritis). Methods: 60 cases of adhesive capsulitis were divided into the observation group and the control group of 30 patients each. The observation group and the control groups were treated with a combination of acupuncture and TDP. The acupuncture points chosen for the observation group were the "3-shoulder-point" namely, jianyu (L15), jianzhen (S19) and jianqian (special point). The control group were treated with traditional acupuncture points. Other supplementary acupoints were also administered where appropriate. Result: The results showed that the observation group and the control group achieved an effective rate of 96.6% and 93.33% respectively. There were no significant differences in results between the two groups of treatment. However, when comparing the results of the cured rate, the study showed that the observation group achieved 69.9% and the control achieved only 43.3%, showing a significant difference between the observation and the control groups, p < 0.05.Conclusion: The "3-shoulder-point" of jianyu, jianzhen and jianqian is an effective acupuncture treatment for adhesive capsulitis than other traditional acupuncture points.
