Objective To discuss the effect of the measure to prevent local seroma in open preperitoneal approach repair of bilateral inguinal hernias. Methods 43 patients with bilateral inguinal hernias, admitted in General Surgery Department of Peking University Shenzhen Hospital from April 2008 to March 2011, were divided into treatment group and control group randomly and treated with open preperitoneal approach repair. Data about the characters and volume of the drain, the temperature curve, the wound healing and the length of hospital stays of patients between two groups were observed and analyzed. Results There is statistics significance (P<0.05)in the temperature curve, the wound healing and the length of hospital stays between two groups, especially in the length of hospital stays (P<0.01). While the recurrence rate, postoperative pain in the groin, and foreign body sensation between two groups has no significant differences (P>0.05).Conclusions The formation of seroma could be effectively prevented by setting drains in Bogros space in the open preperitoneal approach repair of bilateral inguinal hernias ,as well as the impaired wound healing caused by seroma.
