Objectives: Exercise must be dependent on the environment. The comfortable environment is one of the scientific meanings in health fitness. Air quality is one of the major factors which have impact on the environment. In this research, we try to test the air quality of an indoor fitness club and analyze the influence factors of environment, and then discuss the relationship between environmental change of fitness club and human health and exercise, in order to provide a theoretical foundation for the public to choose a favourable and scientific fitness environment.Methodology: In this paper, we used literature, expert interview, questionnaire survey, experimental research, mathematical statistics methods and so on. Test indexes: 1. The parameters of indoor air such as temperature, relative humidity, velocity, carbon dioxide, PM10 and air bacteria. Three gym rooms were measured: spinning room, aerobic gymnasium and running room. 2. Physiological indexes test: this study selected 12 male university students from Shanghai Sports University, whose average age is 23 years old, as research objects to measure their physiological indexes, such as heart rate, blood oxygen saturation and RPE. 3. Psychological index test: POMS questionnaire survey. Testing time: January, 2011-February, 2011.Results: Temperature, relative humidity, velocity, concentration of carbon dioxide and PM10 changed as the time passing. These indexes do not exhibit significant difference (p > 0.05) before and after exercises. Temperature in spinning room increased 6℃-- highest among all rooms. The number of air bacteria there increased 15.5 times. The relative humidity in running room increased dramatically to 120% of its original level. The initial concentration level of carbon dioxide was 0.084% in indoor spinning room. As the time pass, it had a tendency to soar, with a peak level of 0.4%. Heart rate had positive correlation with concentration level of carbon dioxide (P = 0.0274), while it had negative correlation with blood oxygen saturation (P = 0.0088). The average high heart rate group and low heart rate group are significantly different from each other (P < 0.05) in mood fatigue subscale scores. Conclusions: 1. Concentrations of carbon dioxide in indoor gym exceeded the sanitation standard. Relative humidity of indoor aerobic gymnasium is substandard before or after exercise, which indicated that it might be harmful to health in such an environment.2. The indoor gym temperature, humidity, concentration of carbon dioxide and air bacteria had the tendency to go up as the time prolong. Heart rate had positive correlation with concentration of carbon dioxide and negative correlation with blood oxygen saturation.3. Heart rate range of indoor spinning is among 60%-80% HRmax, and RPE level is among12-15, suggesting that exercise intensity of indoor spinning meets the needs of aerobic exercise prescription, which can improve cardio-pulmonary function, dissipate energy and lose weight.4. The average high heart rate group and low heart rate group imply significant difference in mood fatigue subscale scores. Scores of heart rate high group are higher than heart rate low group in nervous, anger, fatigue, panic, energy, self-esteem and TMD. In depression subscales scores, these two groups are the same. The results showed that exercise has impact on mental state. Suggestion:1. Choose an appropriate exercise venue: Selecting non-pollution, air clean places, and avoiding taking exercise near industrial areas, busy roads and crowd concentration of the city centre is appropriate. It is better to choose a park or a woodland as exercise venue.2. We should physically and mentally feel comfortable when doing exercise .The appropriate indoor temperature is from 16℃to 24℃, and the proper relative humidity is from 40% to 80%. Indoor ventilation can be provided by installing air purification equipment or by opening the window to ensure that the air is fresh and clean.3. It is necessary to give close attention to the atmosphere and indoor air quality of public places with the help of environmental monitoring and evaluation report. Try to avoid doing exercise when the air pollution is serious.
