Objective:In order to dertemine the safety and effectiveness of using NBCA or Onyx in arteriovenous malformation's embolization. Methods: all patients undertook endovascular therapy with NBCA or Onyx. One group (34 patients) received embolization with NBCA and the other group(33 patients) with Onyx, including 50 males and 17 females during January 2008 to December 2010.the max age of the patients is 57 years old, the mix one is 7 years old, the mean age is 29.4 years old. Preoperative and postoperative symptoms of patients,Spetzler-Martin grade, rate of embolizations, embolization procedures, complications after embolization, and GOS were analyzed and followed up for 3 months to 2 years, to study different clinical outcome of two groups, according to the overall rate of embolizations between the two groups, embolization procedures, different Spetzler-Martin grade, symptoms and complications were analyzed. Result: 67 patients were received embolization with NBCA or Onyx. There were 14Spetzler-Martin grade I (20.9%%), 24 grade II (35.8%), 22 grade III (32.8%), 6 grade IV (9%), and 1 grade V (1.5%) AVMs. Although there was no statistically difference between NBCA and Onyx in reducing cAVM volume(P=0.089),their embolization producers were statistically significant(P=0.027)。In the low and middle Spetzler-Martin grade, the rate of embolization was no statistically difference (Spetzler-Martin I grade in P = 0.068, II grade P = 0.278, III grade P = 0.262), In a high level (Spetzler-Martin IV and V grade level) cAVM, the rate of embolization in NBCA group was almost the same as in Onyx group(the average of rate of embolization in NBCA group in Spetzler-Martin IV grade was 83%,in Onyx it was 85%),but due to lack of cases, cound not be statistically analyzed. At the same time, there was no statistically difference in improving symptoms in the two groups(P = 0.311), but could significantly improve symptoms (symptoms improved or disappeared after treatment in two groups were over 90%). hemorrhagic complication was 2.9%, neurological complication was 8.9%, at the same time ,there was no statistically difference between two groups on the complication. no deaths occurred. Two groups had no statistically difference on follow-up(P=0.083)。Conclusion: According to the results of this research, Although there was no statistically difference between NBCA and Onyx in reducing cAVM volume, their embolization producers were statistically significant。In the low and middle Spetzler-Martin grade, the rate of embolization was not statistically difference. In a high level (Spetzler-Martin IV and V grade level) cAVM, the rate of embolization in NBCA group was almost the same as it was in Onyx group, but due to lack of cases, cound not be statistically analyzed. At the same time, there was no statistically difference in improving symptoms in the two groups, but could significantly improve symptoms. At the same time, there were no statistically difference between two groups on the complication rates an GOS. In addition, Onyx is equivalent to NBCA in safety and efficacy as a embolic agent in reducing cAVM's volume。...
