Objective The aim of this study was to compare the curative effects of low-gradesupratentorial cerebral arteriovenous malformation with microlaryngosurgery andendovascular embolization, in order to provide some reference for treatmentchoice. Methods Using retrospective study, medical records of48cerebral arteriovenousmalformation patients who visited department of neurosurgery, AffiliatedHospital of Ningxia Medical University from January2004to June2011wereanalyzed in detail. Average length of stay, therapeutic results, rate ofpostoperative complications and conditions of prognosis after three months ofoperation were studied comparatively in the48low-grade supratentorial cerebralarteriovenous malformation patients with microlaryngosurgery and endovascularembolization. Results Vast majority of cases were followed up for at least3months, except for1case died after11days of microlaryngosurgery. The average length of stay was26.52±9.96days in the27microlaryngosurgery cases. There were23cases(85.18%) whose clinical symptoms improved,2cases (7.41%) had no significantdifference and2cases (7.41%) aggravated after2weeks of microlaryngosurgery. Complications turned up in11cases out of27cases (40.74%). Using GlasgowOutcome Scale after3months of operation, there were23cases with favorableprognosis,3cases with severe disability and1death case. The average length ofstay was16.86±5.34days in the21endovascular embolization cases. There were19cases (90.48%) whose clinical symptoms improved and2cases (9.52%) had nosignificant difference. Complications turned up in3cases out of21cases(14.29%). Using Glasgow Outcome Scale after3months of operation, there were18cases with favorable prognosis,3cases with severe disability and no deathcase. Conclusion For low-grade supratentorial cerebral arteriovenous malformation, average length of stay and rate of postoperative complications can be shortenedin endovascular embolization group, while the therapeutic results and conditionsof prognosis have no significant difference between the two groups.
