Objective: To observe the analgesic effect and safety of acupuncture in transvaginal ultrasound-guided oocyte retrieval. Methods: 90 cases undergoing in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer (IVF-ET) were randomly allocated to acupuncture anesthesia(AA) group,polacebo-needle(PN) group and control group. They received respectively Hegu-punctered with the even manipulation, treatment by palacebo-needle and conventional oocyte retrieval operation. Record the PRI,WAS and PPI scores during and after the oocyte retrieval of patients.Observe the side effects during the oocyte retrienval.Test the level of NPY in the follicular fluid obtained from the oocyte retrienval.Record and compare numbers of oocyte retrieved, fertilization rates, cleavage rates and clinical pregnancy rates between three groups. Results: (1)The PRI,WAS and PPI scores during and 1h after the oocyte retrieval in the AA group were obviously lower than that in the control group(P<0.01).And the PRI,WAS and PPI scores during and 1h after the oocyte retrieval in the PN group were lower than that in the control group, but there was no significant difference(P>0.05).(2)The time spended by operation had no correlation with pain. Each kind of the pain scores of patients whose uterus were crossed by the needle for purcture was obviously higher than that of pastients whose uterus were not crossed (P<0.01).(3)The side effects during the oocyte retrienval in the AA group were fewer than that in the control group(P<0.05),and there was no significant difference between the PN group and the control group(P>0.05).(4)The Neuropeptide Y (NPY) concentrations in follicular fluid (FF) in the AA group was obviously higher than that in the control group(P<0.01),and there was no significant difference between the PN group and the control group(P>0.05).(5)There was no significant difference in numbers of oocyte retrieved, fertilization rates, cleavage rates and pregnancy rates between the three groups(P>0.05).Conclusion: In transvaginal ultrasound-guided oocyte retrieval, the analgesic effect of acupuncture was significant, and the effect of psychological factors could be excluded. Acupuncture anesthesia had the advances of safety, high effectiveness, rapid recovery after oocyte retrieval, and few side effects. It is a choice of safe and effective method of analgesia.
