Objective:To explore the risk factors of mechanical ocular injuries and factors that influence visual prognosis through retrospective analysis of 731 cases of mechanical ocular injuries inpatients from 2004 to 2009 in our hospital. Methods:Searched for cases of mechanical ocular injuries inpatients from 2004-01-01 to 2009-01-01. Record the age, gender, resident place, occupation, nation, dominant eye of injury, environment of injury, cause of injury, consulting hours after injury, visual of hospital admission and discharge, discharge diagnosis and treatment methods. Data analysis and statistics were delta with SPPS13.0 software. Results:Altogether 731 cases were collected, in which the major nation were Han (656,89.47%), male to female inpatients was 7:1, ages of mechanical ocular injuries were from 15years to 45years, they were often come from courtyards, factories and military, whose major occupations were peasant, soldier and student. The most common complication was traumatic cataract and anterior chamber hyphenate. Operation, conservation and drugs were included in treatment methods. The most common operation was corneosclera laceration sutra single vitrectomy or single vitrectomy and other operation. Visual improvement were significant (P=0.0001). Risk factors of injuries were blunt injury. The injuries happened in public place, factories, military and house in June to August. The causes of visual prognosis were as follows:age (p=0.001), occupation (p=0.02), cause of injuries (p<0.001), kinds of mechanical ocular injuries (p<0.001),and whether operation or not(p<0.001).Conclusion:1.The tendency of the mechanical ocular injuries to treat in our hospital from 2004 to 2009 was increase. Most of the patients were juvenescence male and Han people. The blunt and penetrating injuries were most common. The majority of complication was traumatic cataract and anterior chamber hyphema.2.the most common cause of mechanical ocular injuries were blunt injury and sharp instrument injury, which often happened in factories, military, public place and house in June to September.3. Soldier inpatients were mainly male soldiers, and the injuries were often associated with military training.4. The main causes of visual prognosis were as follows: age, occupation, cause of injuries, kinds of mechanical ocular injuries and whether operation or not.
