Purpose:To evaluate the efficacy, safety, predictability and the stability of anterior chamber structures after implantable contact lens (ICL) implantation in high myopiaMethods:This study collected 21 eyes of 13 patients undergoing implantable contact lens (ICL) implantation at the eye center of second hospital affiliated to Zhejiang university during October 2009 to August 2010. Uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA), best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), manifest refraction, intraocular pressure, corneal endothelial cell count, higher order aberrations(HOAs), contrast sensitivity(CS) were measured and recorded preoperatively and at 2 weeks,1 month and 3 month postoperatively for each eye. Ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) examination including anterior chamber depth(ACD), ICL to crystalline lens distance (ICL-vault), angle opening distance 500 microns from the scleral spur (AOD500), trabecular-iris angle (TIA). Statistical data were analyzed using SPSS 16.0 software, results were considered significant when P<0.05 Results:At 3-month postoperatively,7 eyes'UCVA are reach to preoperative BCVA(33.3%),10 eyes'UCVA are better than preoperative BCVA (47.6%),16 eyes' BCVA are better than preoperative BCVA (76.2%).3-month postoperatively,19 eyes manifest refraction are within±1.0D expected diopter. Intraocular pressure was no statistically significant difference between pre-and postoperative (p=0.079).Corneal endothelial cells decreased compared with preoperative (p<0.00l). At 3-month postoperatively, glare sensitivity improved significantly at any visual angle compared with preoperative (p<0.001).There was no statistically significant difference of all mean higer order aberration(HOA) values at 3-month postoperatively compared with preoperative (p>0.05). The postoperative ACD, AOD500, TIA value are decrease significantly than preoperative(p<0.001). But there are no statistically significant difference of A CD, AOD500, TIA and ICL-vault between 1-month and 3-month postoperative(p>0.05). No pupillary block glaucoma or anterior capsule opacification occurred during the follow-up.Conclusions:ICL posterior chamber phakic intraocular lens implantation appears to be an effective, safe, predictable method to correct high myopia and can bring us better visual performance.3-month postoperative anterior chamber is stable which be observed by UBM, but long time follow-up is still required.
