Objective:To investigate the clinical features of retroperitoneal neoplasms, improve the diagnostic and therapic levels of clinicians, and reduce misdiagnosis and missed diagnosis.Method:We selected patho-diagnosed five patients with retroperitoneal neoplasms who had ever been in hospital in the department of gastroenterology in the First Affiliated Hospital,School of Medicine, Zhejiang University during 2009-2010, to retrospectively analyze the clinical data of them and summarize their clinical symptoms and signs, laboratory tests, imaging examinations, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up results, and tried to distinguish them from other diseases.Result:The clinical manifestations and serological examination of five cases of retroperitoneal neoplasms were lack of diagnostic specificity, easily confused with other diseases. Two patients were diagnosed by postoperative pathological examination, two by ultrasound-guided biopsies. Two patients underwent surgery, and postoperative pathology were separately diagnosed as retroperitoneal primitive neuroectodermal tumor and retroperitoneal mucinous cystadenoma. By percutaneous puncture under ultrasonographic guidance,3 patients were diagnosed as retroperitoneal stromal tumor, retroperitonal hamartoma and retroperitoneal mucinous cystadenoma. Followed up of 1-12 months, lpatient discovered the phenomenon of recurrence,2 patients died of the tumor, and the other two patients didn't find recurrence or metastasis of the tumor. Conclusion:Preoperative diagnosis of retroperitoneal neoplasms is very diffcult due to a lack of pathognomonic clinical features. Pathological examination is inevitable to make a correct diagnosis. Radiologieal examination is crucial for the diagncsis of the retmperpentoneal tumor. Surgery is the first choice of treatment and complete tumor resection is the main factor that determines prognosis.
