Objective:To investigate the clinical features of the patient with extraovarian peritoneal serouspapillary carcinoma, and its diagnosis and treatment. Methods:Clinical data of 9 patients with extraovarian peritoneal serouspapillary carcinoma was analyzed retrospectively. Results:Nine people 42-to 70-years were recruited in our study, with an average age of 57 years, and eight of which were postmenopausal. All the patients had chief complaints of non-specific symptom of gastrointestinal tract. Seven patients were found masses in their abdomen or pelvis through physical examination or ultrasonography. Seven patients had moderate or serious ascites, and the level of serum CA125 was increased in all the patients. The events of all patients found in the surgery met the GOG diagnostic criteria for extraovarian peritoneal serouspapillary carcinoma. One patient only underwent bilateral adnexectomy plus biopsy of the nidus, while another eight patients were treated with primary cytoreductive surgery. Four patients were optimally debulked. Postoperative pathological diagnosis revealed that all the patients were subjected to serous papillary adenocarcinoma, and all was diagnosed as the advanced cancer equivalent to the ovarian cancer stageâ…¢. Five patients were received systemic TP chemotherapy for 6 to 8 cycles after surgery, and all of them reached the state of complete remission. Two of the five patients exhibited recurrence during our follow-up, and one reached complete remission again after having another 6 cycles of TP chemotherapy. The outcome of follow-up via telephone was:Four patients were lost, one was dead 5 months after the primary surgery, and four was at the state of complete remission. Conclusion:Patients with extraovarian peritoneal serouspapillary carcinoma often exhibit non-specific symptom of gastrointestinal tract. The principle of treatment is consist of cytoreductive surgery followed by multiagent cisplatin-based chemotherapy. The rate of optimal cytoreductive surgery was low, but the response to TP chemotherapy was satisfactory. |
